HYDERABAD: LINK ROAD ALONG MUSI RIVER TO OPEN FOR TRAFFIC BY AUGUST, CONSTRUCTION PROJECT IN LAST STAGE

Hyderabad is set to benefit from a new link road along Musi River. The link road connecting Amberpet directly with Uppal and Ramanthapur is expected to open for traffic by August. The road, starting Amberpet, will cut the current 8 km distance to just 3.5 kilometres, easing the commute for thousands of daily travellers.

The project is developed jointly by the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation (HRDCL) and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the project includes a one km three-lane road by HRDCL and a two km two-lane stretch by GHMC’s projects wing. A GHMC official reported that only 0.5 km of road widening remains, with utility shifting in progress.

Local residents anticipate that the new road will provide a hassle-free and time-saving journey, avoiding the congested main road and traffic jams near Sri Ramana Theatre.

In related news, the State government plans to repair 436 kilometres of State roads. Road and Buildings department officials of the state are working on completing the tender process, which is usually completed before monsoon. The tender process was delayed this year due to the Model Code of Conduct during the Lok Sabha polls.

The Centre allocated Rs 850 crore to the state government last year under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF). However, there was no opportunity to finalise the work even though funds were received from the Centra due to the assembly elections in Telangana last year.
