UTTARAKHAND WEATHER: CLOUDBURST IN TEHRI GARHWAL TRIGGERS FLASH FLOOD-LIKE SITUATION, HARIDWAR-RISHIKESH ON ALERT

Uttarakhand Weather: The rivers and streams in Uttarakhand are overflowing due to the intermittent rain in the mountains since the past few days. Cloudburst in Tehri Garhwal area has triggered a flash flood-like situation in the area. Bal Ganga and Dharam Ganga rivers flowing through this area are in spate leading to disruption in road connectivity to dozens of villages in the upper regions.

Meanwhile, the water level of the Ganga river in Haridwar and Rishikesh is close to the danger mark. Schools in Dehradun, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar have been closed on Saturday amid heavy rain alert. Apart from this, two vehicles were buried under debris that fell from the hill in the Chamoli district, jagran.com reported.

An orange alert has been issued for heavy rain in some areas of Dehradun and Bageshwar districts on Saturday. Apart from this, a yellow alert has been issued for several rounds of heavy rain in some places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pauri, Nainital and Pithoragarh districts.

Badrinath-Kedarnath Highway Closed, Hundreds Of Passengers Stranded

The Badrinath Highway is closed at Gulbakoti. The work of opening the road is underway. The Joshimath-Niti-Malari Highway has been blocked for traffic due to debris near Tamak Nala.

Bhagirathi In Spate Again In Gangotri

The water level of Bhagirathi in Gangotri is on the rise again. The water level has risen to the Aarti Sthal Bhagirath Shila in Gangotri. On Friday, the river had caused significant devastation in the region.

Holiday In Schools Up To Class 12 Today

In view of the warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regarding lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall in Dehradun district on Saturday, District Magistrate Sonika has declared holiday on Saturday for all the schools from 1-12 standard and Anganwadi centres.

Government, non-government and private schools will have to follow the orders issued. Due to heavy rain, holiday was declared in the schools in Dehradun on Friday as well.

Alaknanda-Mandakini Levels On Rise

Due to continuous rainfall in the mountains, the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers flowing in Rudraprayag district are flowing in their fierce form.

Gangotri-Yamunotri Highway Update

Uttarkashi headquarters, Chinyalisaur area is experiencing light rain. Yamunotri National Highway was reported to be smooth for traffic.

The road is blocked due to continuous falling of stones near Gangotri National Highway Sunagar. BRO has deployed a JCB machine at the location. The road will be made smooth for traffic once the stones stop falling. There is information about the road being blocked due to debris and stones near Lambgaon Motor Road Ayarkhal.

Ganga Just Just 88 Meters Below Danger Mark

On Friday, the water level of Ganga at Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh reached 339.62 meters, which was just 88 meters below the danger mark. Due to the rising water level, the police started making announcements on the Ganga Ghats in the morning.

Police personnel and SDRF jawans were stationed on the banks of Ganga after receiving information about rising water levels. Rishikesh Kotwali in-charge inspector Rajendra Singh Kholia said that since morning, information was received from the disaster management office that water has been released from Tehri Dam and Srinagar Dam, due to which the water level of Ganga is likely to increase in Rishikesh by afternoon. People in Ganga Ghats and coastal populated areas Chandraeshwar Nagar, Mayakund were alerted about the danger of Ganga river.
