NEW ACCESSIBLE SWIMMING CENTER PLANNED FOR KARZAKAN BEACH

The Municipalities Affairs Ministry is exploring the creation of a new swimming center for people with disabilities, set to be connected to Karzakan Beach.

Improving Accessibility

Council member Mohamed Saad Al Doser has proposed adding a ramp to enhance beach access further. This ramp would make it easier for individuals using wheelchairs to reach the beach, addressing a significant barrier for people with disabilities. The initiative aims to set a precedent that could lead to similar improvements at other beaches like Budaiya and Malkiya.

Funding and Proposals

The project, slated to begin in the coming months, will be fully funded by the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs. This proposal, which dates back to 2018, is inspired by accessible public spaces found in countries like Turkey.

Enhancing Inclusivity

In addition to the ramp, the ministry plans to provide accessible parking to support individuals with disabilities, ensuring the beach remains welcoming to all. Once operational, the ministry will assess the project's effectiveness and consider extending similar facilities based on compliance and available funding.

Commitment to Accessibility

The Ministry of Municipalities Affairs is committed to incorporating accessibility into various development projects, including parks, gardens, and beaches. Al Doser emphasized that this initiative reflects Bahrain's dedication to inclusivity, aiming to ensure equal opportunities and support for people with disabilities.
