UK TRAVEL AGENT GOES INTO LIQUIDATION JUST THREE YEARS AFTER OPENING

Another travel agent has gone into liquidation - only a short three years after it opened.

New Era Travel in Alresford, Hampshire has closed down and its office is now up for sale.

The company opened in 2022, offering a range of holiday options, the Hampshire Chronicle reported.

Among its options were exclusive coach tours from locations such as Alresford, Fareham, and Wickham.

However, the independent travel agency has now announced it has had to close its doors after going into liquidation.

A note on the door of the closed office explains the circumstances.

It says: 'With deep regret, we must inform you that New Era Travel has ceased trading and is in the process of liquidation.

'We want to express our sincerest gratitude to every customer who has supported us over the years. It has been a privilege helping you plan your adventure.

'We are pleased to confirm that all ABTA-protected travel bookings (packages, flights, cruises and holidays) will proceed as planned.'

It also thanked customers for their support.

It comes after a European tour company declared bankruptcy amid the fallout from Play airline's shutdown.

Last month, budget airline Play cancelled all flights as it ceased operation with immediate effect.

But a local tour company could not handle the number of customers it had to compensate - meaning it had to declare bankruptcy itself.

Reykjavik-based Tango Travel, which sold tour packages that relied mainly on Play flights, ceased operations at the start of this month.

Closer to home, in October Cornwall's tourism board went into voluntary liquidation due to 'insurmountable financial problems'.

Visit Cornwall has been promoting the popular seaside destination since 2015.

But a spokesperson for the non-profit organisation has now said it has made the 'incredibly difficult decision' to close, which they called 'the only responsible choice'.

Meanwhile, travellers were left in limbo earlier this year after British travel company Great Little Escapes went bust.

The firm, based in Berkshire, claimed to offer the 'best cheap breaks in the UK'.

But many holidays were placed at risk after the company folded, having stopped trading as an Air Travel Organiser's Licence (ATOL) holder.
