WATCH: BURJ KHALIFA LIGHTS UP IN PURPLE TO CONGRATULATE KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS AND SRK FOR BEING CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF IPL 2024
The world-famous Burj Khalifa in Dubai turned purple on Tuesday, May 28, drawing attention to the success of Kolkata Knight Riders in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL). The Shah Rukh Khan-co-owned team added its third IPL title to the cabinet with a dominant triumph over Sunrisers Hyderabad at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday. In recognition of the monumental achievement, the Burj Khalifa lit up in the KKR colours as the cricket enthusiasts in Dubai celebrated the newly crowned IPL champions.
A video featuring the wonderful moment was dropped by the Kolkata-based franchise on Instagram. The caption of the post read, “View from the top. It’s all PURPLE.” The light and sound show on the Burj Khalifa building started with a picture of the champion Kolkata Knight Riders squad. Shah Rukh Khan also featured in the segment as a message read, “Congratulations KKR. Congratulations SRK.”
Shah Rukh Khan’s manager Pooja Dadlani also dropped a clip of the Burj Khalifa adorned with the iconic Purple and Gold colours of Kolkata Knight Riders. “This is just so special. Thank you so much Emaar Dubai and Burj Khalifa for all that you do.”
Shah Rukh Khan shared a great bond with the people in Dubai. Last year when the Bollywood Baadshah made a roaring comeback to the silver screen with three back-to-back movies, trailers of those films– Pathan, Jawan and Dunki– were displayed on the Burj Khalifa. Ahead of the release of Jawan, a special event was organised in Dubai, with SRK entertaining the crowd with his dance steps.
After KKR became the champions of the 2024 IPL, Shahs Rukh Khan thanked all the squad members in an emotional dressing room speech. He said, “Wherever we go ahead from here onwards, I wish you the best. And, I know, I speak on behalf of Jay, Juhi, Jahnavi, Suhana, Pooja, all of us, who love you so much that you make us very emotional. And, we wish we had this team for the rest of our lives. And you kept on listening to my speeches and playing like this.”
Shah Rukh Khan, along with his family, marked his attendance at Chepuak to attend the IPL 2024 final and cheer for his team Kolkata Knight Riders. He also took part in the victory lap with the players after KKR beat SRH by eight wickets in the summit clash.
